Cuban National Ballet Starts Tour around Canada

The Cuban National Ballet, led by prima
ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, departed for Canada where they will
dance the famous “Nutcracker”, according to a press release by the company.
The Cuban company had returned from a two-month long tour around Spain, to
have a two-week season at the Havana’s Grand Theater, with the premieres
of “Sientate” (Sit down) by Norwegian choreographer Cina Espejord and“Aires de Tradicion (Airs of tradition) by Cuban Eduardo Blanco.
The Cuban National Ballet will start its performance at the Hamilton Place
Theater in Toronto on December 6 with a programme that includes “Umbral”
(Threshold) (Choreography by Alicia Alonso with the music of Johann
Christian Bach), The Black Swam (Act III Swam Lake pas de deux) and Coppelia.
On the 8th, at the same venue, the Cuban company will perform Nutcracker
with choreography by Alicia Alonso and music by Piotr Ilich Chaikovski,
that they will repeat on the 9th and 10th.
The leading roles in these performances will be played by prima ballerinas
Anette Delgadoand Viengsay Valdés, as well as leading dancer Dani
Hernández. They will be accompanied by Verónica Corveas, Ernesto Díaz,
Jessie Domínguez, Osiel Gounod, Camilo Ramos, Amaya Rodríguez, Félix
Rodríguez and Javier Sánchez.
The Cubans will dance, as in previous tours, along the children of the
Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble.
